Starting at the coast Ben and Tarka will climb almost 8000ft up one of the world's largest glaciers, the Beardmore Glacier on to the Antarctica plateau. Once on the plateau they'll have a straight line to the South Pole before turning around and walking back the way they came to the coast again.

  • Distance to go: 0 Mi
    Distance

Ben and Tarka will cover 1800 miles starting from Scott's Terra Nova Hut at the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole and back to the coast again. That's equivalent to 69 back-to-back marathons hauling up to 200kg each (the weight of roughly two adult men) of kit and supplies necessary to survive.

Distances here are shown in statute miles.

London to Punta Arenas

Please excuse the silence over the last few days! We've been travelling south from London to Punta Arenas where we're doing our final packing before flying on to Antarctica in the next week.

Ben and Tarka will be in touch shortly with the latest from Punta, but in the meantime thank you everyone for all of your well wishes and here's a short video taking you on our travels so far.

Ben & Tarka, these videos and posts are amazing!  I’ve been captivated by the history of the exploration and explorers of Antarctica, but will likely never be able to make the journey myself…Thank-you for sharing (music and images are great!)
